Writing From St. Jude. Update on Michael's Battle With Cancer

Hello Friend.

I'm writing to you from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. It is almost 4 P.M. Michael Winston is just finishing up his second Chemo treatment of the day.

Here is a short update...

  • His fever is under control, his mouth ulcers are healed, and his "stroke like paralysis" (a reaction to the chemo) has not returned. We thank God for all this, and thank you for your prayers.
  • His white blood count has fallen drastically again (they doctors expect this.) This puts him in danger of fever, infection, etc. Please pray for him on this point. He cannot go out much, and when he does, he has to wear a mask.
  • He has started to gain back some of his weight, thank God.
  • On Wednesday, he had an x-ray of the leg bone where his cancer originated. Thankfully, the orthopedic oncologist told us that the bone is beginning to heal, and they expect Michael to be able to begin walking again in one or two months. This is a HUGE BLESSING. He has not been able to walk for almost 8 weeks, so his muscles are atrophying, and he is anxious to be able to run and play with his brothers.

He has chemo today (Friday) through Monday (all of it outpatient), and then - God willing - has one week with no hospital visits over the thanksgiving weekend. In other words, a whole week off! (Except for daily oral chemo, which we give him at the house.)

I humbly beg your prayers that Michael could have the next 10 days without infection, fever, seizure, etc., so that he does not need to be hospitalized. He would love (and so would his family) to have a week together at home, without hospital visits.

Please, please pray with us.

Andrea and I thank you with all our hearts for your prayers. Long Life to You.

Tomorrow, I will update you on our living situation. (Hurray! He is done. We can go home for the night. What a blessing to be close to this wonderful place.)

Seeking Refuge and Healing in Christ's Wounds,
Randall Terry
